In 2014, Wildbluesea set out to help the world see how plastic was filling the ocean and littering our lives. We asked a question few were asking at that time: What if the ocean was full of plastic? We’re proud to have been one of a small group of fellow changemakers who took on the formidable mission of making the problem widely known…and to move beyond informing to motivating people to change their ways.
Hundreds of people joined us to pioneer programs that combined science with our positive emotional connection to wild waters and became catalysts for a global movement to reduce ocean plastic pollution. Thousands more gained insight and changed their behavior to reduce their own impact after experiencing our outreach programs.
In 2018, we piloted Ocean Gratitude clean-ups with a twist and presented results at the 6th International Marine Debris Conference to 700+ attendees from 54 countries.
We accomplished our first goal and led the effort to expose the global plastic pollution crisis resulting in todays' shift away from single-use. Beach clean-ups have become mainstream. Reducing plastic entering waterways continues to be a core part of our message.
We continue to create a new, more effective voice for coastal conservation by introducing behavior change strategies with a powerful positive motivational element called "blue mind". To restore a healthy relationship with wild waters based in reciprocity. Ocean. inlet, river, lagoon. The awe, joy, peace and wonder we experience. We're focused on revealing and valuing the blue mind benefits we receive.
Linda Emerson is an award-winning coastal ecologist, educator, and change leader whose work centers on deepening watershed literacy and empowering coastal residents to contribute to restoring healthy waterways. For over four decades she has created and led transformative projects that connect people to nature through experiential environmental learning. From her early career designing hands-on field programs in Florida’s coastal habitats to founding Wildbluesea, Inc. in 2014, Linda has focused on how personal and collective relationships with water can drive meaningful environmental action. Her work underscores the ecological, societal and personal value of water and watersheds for the well-being of people and planet.
Honored as the 2021 “Blue Friend of the Year” by Loggerhead Marinelife Center, Linda continues to advance watershed-based thinking, emphasizing our reciprocal relationship with the ocean and each other through inclusive, science-based programs that cultivate stewardship, spark behavioral change and strengthen our shared responsibility to value the ocean.
"Find your center, strength and balance in the water. Carry it with you and remember that all is connected. That words and choices ripple out into our shared world. Most importantly, that our well-being is directly linked to the well-being of wild waters." Linda Emerson
Installations of 200+ mangroves across 20+ local businesses, vertical oyster gardens hung on resident docks and much more on the way! As a volunteer-led nonprofit, we have plenty of opportunities (big and small) for anyone to get involved.
A unique part of our strategy is to hold programs at the Jupiter Lighthouse deck and property to bring people together for socials, meditative practices and traditional environmental education. In 3 months, we held 13 programs with over 300 happy attendees. More programs are in the works.
